I recently tried 1v1s after getting Sptw and it came to my attention just how awful the controls are, infact they make it near impossible to get a win, why is this you may ask?
1: Input lag, most moves take forever to come out resulting in combos being near non existant as you pretty much need to guess when your intial moves will even come out and even if that initial attack comes out, the rest of them may just not come out quick enough resulting in it breaking the combo, but that's not even the worst part, it's the blocking, the blocking... Where do I even start? It's just so clunky, sometimes it works, other times it doesn't, sometimes it stays blocking, other times it doesn't and some times it just doesn't let you stop blocking so you're just left as a sitting duck
2: Loading, usually when you go into a match you either have to do 1 of 2 things, either wait until it is fully loaded so that you will 100% spawn with your controls but it may just randomly give the opponent the win or just give the opponent a huge advantage due to their positioning, so you can do this or you can risk it and try entering early which will probably just leave you with no moves whatsoever for literally the whole match and this STILL has the problem of the opponent's positioning
3: The dashing, like blocking doing this is just completely unreliable as 99% of the time it doesn't even activate and during the one in a million chance that it does you have literally 0 control over where it goes meaning it could literally put you in more danger!

2021.10.19 17:45 donethemath One Month After "My First Look at Innistrad: Midnight Hunt Mythics"

About a month ago, I posted about my first look at Innistrad: Midnight Hunt Mythics. I want to take a look at how I did with that review.
A few notes before starting. First, I clearly should have put prices next to the mythics. I don't know of an easy way to pull up the prices of the cards from the day I posted, so all I've got is the order of my first list (ordered from most expensive to cheapest preorders at the time). Also, I just missed Wrenn and Seven in my initial review (MTGStocks didn't have it listed in the right place). I'll stick it at the top of the list since I think it had the highest preorder price.
[[Wrenn and Seven]] - $30.04 market price - I don't have a prior analysis to compare, so I'll just say I called this perfectly since there isn't any conflicting evidence. More seriously, this card is showing up in one of the two biggest decks in Standard currently (Mono Green and Izzet Alrund's Epiphany). The interaction between W&7 and Esika's Chariot has been talked about plenty, and it's a powerful sequence of plays. Standard probably isn't keeping a card at $30, particlularly since W&7 isn't always a 4x card there. Clearly there is some commander demand as well. I believe Golos got banned after I first wrote about these cards, so there might have been a few "lands matter" decks that bought and immediately lost out here. Even with that, the price tag indicates that the demand is clearly there.
[[Teferi, Who Slows the Sunset]] - $6.43 market price - I'm not sure who was pulling for this card, but it took the dive I predicted. Not really going to pat myself on the back here, I don't think this was a particularly surprising development. It's still got a small chance to show up as a roleplayer in standard, but the format would have to drastically change for that to happen. Small chance for profit in the future, but there isn't ever likely to be much demand here.
[[The Meathook Massacre]] - 36.81 market price - This card had a serious jump in price from the preorder period. I remember a post comparing this card to The Great Henge. I don't agree there, but I clearly undersold how popular this card would be. Since the card price essentially plateaued after the spike, I don't see the price going down anytime soon. I should have advocated for this card more
[[Arlin, the Pack's Hope]] - $15.91 market price - I called this a good card primarily because of Standard and Modern, so this is probably a loss for me despite the price only going down a bit. Standard green decks aren't playing red due to the GG and GGG card costs, so there isn't much of a home there. Modern post MH2 is fast enough and constrained by companions enough that Arlin just doesn't have a home there. The price looks like it's supported mostly by commander players. That means this will rise and fall with the popularity of werewolves, and the price will probably creep downward after the new set's hotness drives Innistrad from recent memory. Then the price will creep up the next time Innistrad is announced for a set. For comparison, you can check almost every other decent werewolf that isn't Huntmaster of the Fells (who's price was somewhat tied to Standard and limited Modern success)
[[Moonveil Regent]] - $4.59 market price - this one dropped, but not as much as I was inclined to think. I did undervalue the ability somewhat, but the card still doesn't seem to have a home. If mono red ever takes off, this could fill a similar slot as Experimental Frenzy in those decks. Keep an eye on this one during preview seasons if mono red looks to be getting a boost that doesn't rely on synergy.
[[Lier, Disciple of the Drowned]] - $7.91 market price - I definitely missed on this one despite the price dropping somewhat. I pretty much thought it was unplayable trash. Some of the Standard Alrund's Epiphany decks were using this to repeatedly Duress opponents at Worlds. The counterspell clause is there as a safety valve to keep the card from being a nightmare. The price tag indicates that it doesn't have extreme Commander demand, but I doubt this will be seeing bulk prices.
[[Lord of the Forsaken]] - $2.01 market price - This mostly dropped like I expected. There are some niche homes for this in Commander, but it hasn't broken out enough for demand to outstrip supply. Might be a sweet spec down the line, but it's not doing anything right now.
[[Bloodthirsty Adversary]] - $6.21 market price - The price dropped here because it doesn't have a home currently. It's not bulk prices since the next set cares about Vampires. This card will bump up in price if red aggro decks come back (see Robber of the Rich) or if a synergistic, aggressive Vampire deck needs it (curve filler or somewhat interested in the flashback ability). The Goblin Dark-Dwellers mode for the card appears to be defunct, or the Alrund's Epiphany decks would probably be playing it. Not seeing play anywhere outside of Standard except for maybe a few Edgar Commander decks. I probably need to call this a miss, since it's price is entirely reliant on the hope that the next set supports it.
[[Sigardian Savior]] - $0.89 market price - Standard didn't want it and apparently Commander didn't either. I probably need to call this a loss, since I though it would do better than sub $1.
[[Sigarda, Champion of the Light]] - $3.50 market price - I called this one dropping like a rock. It didn't go down quite that fast (see Sigardian Savior above), but it still dropped enough that I can call this a win.
[[Spectral Adversary]] - $3.26 market price - I called this one keeping a low price and it did. It's still an option for modern/pioneer spirits, but that's not enough to eat up the current supply. Probably going to stay cheap unless something else powers it up in the future. That's probably more likely to involve the Phasing aspect of the card than the Sprint creature type at this point.
[[Tainted Adversary]] - $7.74 market price - This price isn't getting supported from Standard, so the card has some Commander demand. That's probably a cross between Zombie themes and Aristocrats decks looking for fodder. The Decay zombies have played out better than expected in Limited, but they haven't made any waves in Standard. That won't be changing without significant support for black aggro/midrange.
[[Primal Adversary]] - $3.60 market price - Mostly in the dumps at this point. I did call it out for green aggro in Standard, but those decks have trended towards mono green for better cards. This has pretty much all the pieces in place for success and it's still not getting there. I wouldn't touch it now, and I highly doubt I'd speculate on it later.
[[Jerren, Corrupted Bishop]] $1.53 market price - This did fall like a rock. I had thought that a small number of Commander players might want it, but it appears that nobody is interested at all.
[[Poppet Stitcher]] $9.18 market price - currently the 4th most expensive mythic in the set, Poppet Stitcher did pretty much exactly what I expected. There was a dip at release, and it's stabilized and mostly rebound to the initial price. Minimal Standard demand, so the Spells Matter theme in Commander is the primary support.
[[Intrepid Adversary]] $8.71 market price - I overvalued this for Modern and undervalued this for Standard. Mono white is probably the third most popular standard deck after mono green and izzet, so this clearly has a home there. Modern Humans hasn't made any waves recently, so it's harder to tell if it's good there. It certainly wasn't good enough to make Modern Humans show up more often. It's about the same place as it was during preorder, which is a decent endorsement on it's own.
[[Consuming Blob]] $0.71 market price - I actually warmed up on this card a bit for Standard play after my initial review. Then it became clear that the only midrange/late game threat that mattered in Standard is Alrund's Epiphany and this card never really showed up. I guess it's a win since my initial call said it was pretty bad. If Epiphany gets banned, this is a possible supplement to W&7.
[[Enduring Angel]] $1.23 market price - Felt like bulk and it turned into bulk. Not much to see here
[[Sunstreak Phoenix]] $0.40 market price - I had hopes that this would see some play, and it was my pick from the bottom mythics in the set. I was definitely wrong here, and I suspect Moonveil Regent will steal any home this might have ever had. Definitely a miss here.
[[Hostile Hostel]] $1.47 market price - Dropped like I expected, but I probably still can't call this a win. There are just too many decent creature lands in Standard for this to have a home there (plus the tension with snow land counts for Faceless Haven).

Cards I'd call a win: Teferi, Who Slows the Sunset, Lord of the Forsaken, Sigarda, Champion of the Light, Spectral Adversary, Poppet Stitcher, Consuming Blob, Enduring Angel
Cards I'd call a loss: The Meathook Massacre, Arlin, the Pack's Hope, Lier, Disciple of the Drowned, Sigardian Savior, Sunstreak Phoenix, Hostile Hostel
Cards in the middle: Wrenn and Seven, Moonveil Regent, Bloodthirsty Adversary, Tainted Adversary, Primal Adversary, Jerren, Corrupt Bishop, Intrepid Adversary

I think I was fairly critical on my self grading, calling things like The Meathook Massacre and Arlin a loss despite being partly correct. Either way, this is a fairly hard exercise to get right. I definitely pulled for several cards to have Standard homes that just haven't existed, so I need to take that into account in the future.
My biggest miss was Sunstreak Phoenix, as that's the only card I would have picked as a possible sleeper and possibly gone in on. It didn't even end up as the best card at fulfilling the role I envisioned (Moonveil Regent) in a deck that doesn't currently exist.
I probably need a better rating system for both before and after if I do this again too. Feel free to call me out if my post analysis and final ratings don't look like they match, I started going pretty fast at that point. I find myself writing too much without actually saying if I did well or not during individual card summaries.

Unable to insert RAM into laptop's empty DIMM slot
I am trying to install an 8GB DDR4 RAM into the empty slot of my Asus TUF FX505DT laptop. I am unable to figure out how to insert the stick into the slot. There are couple of hooks near the golden pins which are preventing the stick from entering at a 45°. The stick does have two round holes into which the hooks are supposed to go in, but they are not lining up.

Was busy playing other tanks, decided to come back to the kranvagn recently and give it a try and grind out field mods.
Here's what I got so far to start a discussion. My tank runs vstab/bounty aiming/vents. I have used turbo in place of vents but the mobility is held back by terrible ground resistances. This is for a six skill crew (ie, bia, off road driving, gun handling and view range skills) with food.
On with the field mods:

  1. ammo/consumables config slot
  2. All Terrain Suspension (1) is the clear winner here. Effective top speed is 49/47/32 vs 42/40/27 with Lightweight Suspsension (2). Even with the traverse buff from (2), the buffed terrain resistance from (1) makes (1) have better traverse.
  3. equipment config slot
  4. Parallax Adjustment (1) is the clear winner. Losing 0.22 Aim time (2.08 vs 2.3) in exchange for .02 better accuracy is a good deal.
  5. I think periscope eletric drive (2) is the winner here. Having less stun time from Sound Insulation (1) is neat but the difference is small and I find that the solution to stun time in the kran is to relocate, not sit there and struggle through it. I've found kran is decently good at dodging arty anyway. Picking (2) gets you 465 vs 438 view range which is way more valuable than the stun time buff.
  6. For my bounty aiming, vstab, vents build I would take firepower for the vstab and have vents in the durability slot. For my old turbo build, I would take mobility for the grousers, put bond turbo and then have bounty vstab for gun handling. This makes for ridiculously fast tank (effective speed of 62/60/40 vs 49/47/32). I prefer the gun accuracy build right now though. It gets there slower but it works better once you're in position.
  7. (1) gives you 21 kph reverse with 19.84 reload speed while (2) gives you 15 kph reverse with 18.62 reload speed. I think 15 reverse is tolerable but not great. Feels dangerously close to the terribad 12 reverse of the T57 heavy. Cheiftain, vz55, obj 260, obj 277 all have 15kph reverse and they don't feel crippled without turbo so I might go this route.
  8. (1) gives you extra 80 hp, 15% better dispersion after firing and another .25 worse on aim time. So taking both of the mods that worsen aim time, we're all the way up to 2.43 aim time (instead of 1.95) but with more health, better firing dispersion and better base accuracy. If the aim time buff was bigger I might consider it (like if it got it down to below 1.5) but 2 vs 2.4 is nothing and the buffs you get for it are real.
So optimal build for me seems to be 1, 1, 2, 2, 1. This is the same as skill4ltu, only he picks option 1 for mod 7 (21 reverse but slower reload).
